Aside from the gun parts found around the map, Resident Evil has largely done away with weapon upgrades since Resident Evil 6. Introduced in Resident Evil 4, players could trade their hard-earned cash for better weapon stats, turning mediocre pieces into deadly weapons.
With the Duke now entering the stage for Resident Evil Village, we’ll once again be seeing weapon upgrades, and like Resident Evil 4, we’ll be getting them from a friendly face.
Firstly, you’ll need some scrap. Thankfully, you’ll find plenty of Lei scattered around in Resident Evil Village, an old Romanian currency. You’ll even find some treasure here and there, treasure that the Duke will happily fork over some Lei for.
After you accumulated the necessary wealth, you’ll be able to go to the Duke’s Gunsmithy. Here, you’ll be able to fine-tune your weaponry much as you have before. Power, reload speed, rate of fire, and ammo capacity can all be improved over time.
In previous videos, it seemed like the weapons could also have attachments added to them, as they each had a number of unfilled circles near them that bring to mind attachment slots from other games. How that will work still remains to be seen. However, what we do know now is that the Duke didn’t get that big without knowing a little bit of the culinary arts.
Through the Duke’s Kitchen, Ethan will be able to get permanent stat upgrades, likely to things like health and stamina. All that’s required is that you bring the Duke the necessary meat. This means that wild animals will play a part in your journey, and killing them will allow you to skin them and collect their vital parts.
The full breadth of these systems in Resident Evil Village is still unknown as of now. It’s possible that weapons will have their own exclusive upgrades, similar to how Resident Evil 4 offered after all other upgrades were complete on a weapon. This, alongside the aforementioned weapon attachments, is still up in the air.
We’re only a couple of weeks from bartering with the Duke, as Resident Evil Village‘s May 7th release pulls ever closer.
