The official title for Johannes Roberts’ upcoming Resident Evil reboot is Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
During an interview at SXSW‘s online event, IGN learned of the official title of the film from Roberts himself.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is a cinematic reboot of the first two RE games, and it will star several Resident Evil staples Chris and Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and several others from both games (you can see the castings here).
Welcome to Raccoon City is set in the year 1998 and follows the events of the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. As this game contains both titles, it will include both the mansion from RE1, the city and RPD from RE2, and other locations such as Emmy’s Diner, Kendo’s Gun Shop, and the Orphanage from the 2019 remake.
Out of these locations we have seen so far, they heavily take from their source material and are very true to detail. The release date for the film is slated for September 3, 2021.
