Huge numbers!

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Village has sold over 5 million units worldwide, as announced in a press release. Following a successful May release window in which the game sold over 3 million units in its first week, Resident Evil Village has since seen a “steady growth of sales,” allowing the game’s success to continue.

According to the company, Village‘s success is due in part to its “multifaceted expansion” of the series as a whole.

In addition to providing a sense of scale that outdoes its predecessor [Resident Evil 7: Biohazard], as well as storytelling that rises above the genre of horror games, this title was lauded for featuring a higher degree of action and even more expansive, highly engaging gameplay

With over 5 million sales in just over 5 months since its release, Resident Evil Village has surpassed the milestone at a much faster rate than Capcom’s previous entry in the series, Resident Evil 7, which took over a year to accomplish the same feat. Despite reaching the milestone at a slower pace, Capcom announced earlier this month that Resident Evil 7 has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, making it the series’ first game to do so.

Resident Evil Village‘s recent success appears to be mirrored by the studio as a whole. According to Capcom’s most recent financial reports, the studio’s net sales and profits have reached record levels for the second quarter in a row. For the six months ending September 30, Capcom’s net sales were up 66.4 percent and its operating income was up 61.9 percent year on year.

Capcom claims that its success has been primarily driven by new title releases and an increase in digital sales during that time period, with sales volumes from its own games exceeding 19.8 million units (a figure up 43.5 percent year-over-year). Capcom acknowledged Resident Evil Village‘s continued success in supporting the studio’s growth, but also stated that it had made efforts to increase its earnings through other avenues, such as the use of its brands in films and licensed products in eSports. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin was also cited as a key factor in the game’s success.
