The business side of video games is a messy one. This aspect has lead to some of the biggest disappointments and snubs the industry has seen, going all the way back to the origins of the art.
Even the team who made Doom had to fight the ever-present specter of suit-clad business types.
Resident Evil Village will be no exception, sadly. Due to some kind of business deal between Capcom and Sony, Village will likely be kept from joining the roster of Xbox Game Pass games, even though there are already a few Resident Evil titles already there.
While this is surely disappointing, it also makes a bit of sense. If Sony is putting money down on the publishing or development of Resident Evil Village, then it’s reasonable for them to restrict how much of the pie their competitors get.
Village going to Game Pass would give Microsoft a distinct advantage, as anyone subscribed to their services would have access to the game for no extra cash.
Regardless, it’s good that Resident Evil Village will still see a release on all platforms (sans Switch), all with a simultaneous release. No timed exclusivity on this one.
Resident Evil Village will finally be dropping in just a few short days on May 7th.
