Capcom seems to be enjoying teasing us lately. They’ve dropped numerous hints about the upcoming Resident Evil Village. They’ve even expressed high confidence in it, calling it the greatest survival horror game ever.
Now, Resident Evil Village director Morimasa Sato is adding even more fuel to the fire, teasing some important story developments in the latest edition of EDGE Magazine.
As we all know, Resident Evil 7 isn’t a story about Ethan, really. It’s about an event that he’s involved in, but it tells us nothing about the man himself. According to Sato, this is going to change this time. He seems confident that there’s a twist buried in Village that players won’t see coming.
The biggest surprise you could possibly imagine awaits Ethan Winters in this story. What that is, you’ll have to see for yourself!Morimasa Sato to Edge Magazine
What that twist is remains to be seen. We’ve seen a lot of leaks in the past few months, but none come to mind about Ethan specifically. It’s interesting to note that Resident Evil 7 actually reveals literally nothing about him.
Sharp-eyed fans noticed an Ethan W. mentioned in a note all the way back in Resident Evil 5, actually. Up until this very statement, many believed it was likely just a name that the team liked, especially given the clear departure from the main series that Resident Evil 7 was. It’s even alluded that he was deceased by the time Chris ever saw this note.
However, maybe there’s more to that note than we thought, or at least, there might be NOW. It could be a matter of retroactive continuity, after all.
That’s all speculation, however. The only thing we know for sure is that Morimasa Sato is excited for us to see how Ethan’s story plays out in Resident Evil Village.
We’ll have to wait until May 7th when Resident Evil Village releases to see for ourselves.
