The asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight is getting a new Resident Evil-themed chapter, and it’ll add familiar faces to anyone who’s played the recent Resident Evil remakes. The newest Killer in Dead by Daylight is Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 remake, who will be joined by two new Survivors: Jill Valentine (Resident Evil 3 remake) and Leon S. Kennedy from the Resident Evil 2 remake.
Nemesis is a fairly unique Killer in the game. The Tyrant is his in-game name, and he brings some Resident Evil elements to Dead by Daylight. He uses a deadly tentacle to attack, making him a longer range killer in the vein of the Deathslinger.
This is where things begin to get interesting: Nemesis has the ability to infect Survivors with the T-Virus. They cough and make noises as a result, rendering them easier to find.
When Nemesis is the Killer, AI-controlled zombies spawn on the map with him. These zombies can also infect players with the T-Virus, causing Nemesis to grow more powerful. When his tentacles hit infected Survivors, they deal more damage. When more Survivors are infected, Nemesis does more damage and has a longer range.
A limited number of T-Virus vaccines are strewn about the map, forcing survivors to choose between curing the T-Virus early or saving the cure for later in the round.
The new Survivors, Jill and Leon, are a little tougher than the rest of the Survivors, and each has their own set of perks. When the Killer tries to sabotage the generator, Jill can place a mine on it, which triggers and explodes, blinding them. Leon, on the other hand, has a perk that causes flashbangs to spawn all over the map, providing a welcome distraction. Killers can be stopped from carrying downed survivors with flashbangs, and if used correctly, they can also be blinded.
The game is also a new map modelled after the Raccoon City Police Department with an element of procedural generation.
The Resident Evil chapter for Dead by Daylight official begins on June 15th, but you can join Leon, Jill, and Nemesis by joining the public beta servers now.
