Capcom surprised everyone earlier by announcing that there would be an upcoming closed beta test for a “Resident Evil title that no one has played before”, and while we don’t know what the game is, there’s some information on the page some might have missed.
At the bottom of the registration splash page it has the following descriptors:
- Genre: Multi-player Action
- Players: 4-6 people
- Rating: ESRB RP
So the title is definitely a multiplayer game, which lines up with information released from the hack Capcom experienced last year and might fall in line with a personal theory I’ve had involving Resident Evil Resistance.
With Resistance recently getting a free to play weekend and the fact that it’s support was killed off so quickly, while not a popular 4v1 game, I don’t think it had anything to do with the ending of support. I believe it’s because they’re revamping the system with new game modes, mechanics, etc. and since this supports 4 to 6 players, my theory doesn’t seem so farfetched now.
We’ll see how this develops as there’s likely to be information that comes out about this test next week at the Resident Evil Showcase on January 21, if not we’ll learn more when the testing happens at the end of the month.
