Every year, Sony Interactive Entertainment Asia has an award ceremony based solely around sales. This year the Playstation Partner Awards were hosted on December 3rd by Jon Kabira and Hatsune Matsushima.
These awards are mostly for domestic developers, meaning that while titles like God of War are highly prized exclusives, they can only receive the Special Award category.
Awards are distributed based on sales in both Asian and international markets. The three categories are Grand, Partner, and Special.
While Capcom didn’t quite reach the Grand mark (the top 3 titles developed in Asia with the highest global sales), Resident Evil 3 still performed handily. They ended up walking away with a Partner Award to show for their work. This award is given to titles developed in Asia with the best global sales between October 2019 and September 2020.
Resident Evil 3 wins Partner Award
It’s been more than twenty years since the original Resident Evil 3 was released, and I’m glad that we were still able to get the input of the members of the team who worked on the original version all those years ago, developing the latest release with all of the newest technologies of the day. This year’s been a tough year for sure, so my gratitude goes out double to all of the developers, partners and the marketing and PR teams the world over for coming together on this project. Of course, my heart goes out to all our users out there for your enduring enthusiasm for the game. It’s because of you that we are able to overcome all the obstacles and keep dishing out our best work for you. Enjoy the Resident Evil series, and look out for our newest release, Resident Evil Village. You’re going to be scared.Peter Fabiano, Resident Evil 3 Producer
While Resident Evil 3 is certainly divisive, that doesn’t change the fact that it sold fairly well. Congratulations to Capcom for earning yet another award to put in their proverbial trophy case!
