Fans got a nice taste of Resident Evil in VR back when Resident Evil 7 came out, but since then, it seems that Capcom has relegated that to a flash in the pan. None of their official releases since have had virtual reality support.
While Resident Evil 4 is getting a surprise VR release on Oculus that was announced earlier this Summer, Capcom isn’t even making that themselves. There also seems to be little to indicate that Resident Evil Village will follow in 7‘s footsteps with its own VR version.
They’re currently developing a mod that will add VR play with full motion controls to the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.
praydog showcased a nice gameplay demo, traversing a hallway as Claire. They showed off the ability to wield your weapon in one hand while brandishing your flashlight about with your left.
This limb separation is likely harder than you’d think to achieve, and there were a few visual bugs during the demo. These have apparently already been alleviated as indicated by implementing full VRIK according to praydog.
This kind of work is nice, as the community has the opportunity to fill the gaps that are left by companies. Fans can make new experiences, independent of the expectations that companies often have to deal with.
While there’s no release date officially announced yet, we’ll make sure to keep an eye on this project for you all. You can even follow praydog here.
