Capcom has recently updated its platinum titles list, showing that Resident Evil 2‘s remake is close to surpassing the original’s lifetime sales.
As of September, the 2019 remake has sold over 4.7 million units. The 1998 release sold a total lifetime number of 4.96 million units. It goes without saying that the 1998 release was originally only available on Playstation and ported later, whereas the remake was a multi-platform title.
Still, selling nearly five million units in nine months is still quite a feat, especially for Capcom. With the holiday season around the corner, expect this figure to rise drastically by the time of its one-year anniversary. Especially with online and Black Friday sales.
All in all, Capcom is enjoying an amazing financial year! We’re excited about the future for the company and future Resident Evil titles.
