Gamers the world over have collectively made a joke of the once-great Half-Life series. It’s tough not to, when the final add-on story, Episode 2, came out in 2007.
Since then, it’s been radio silence. The occasional rumor pops up, and every year people say “this is the year!” and get hyped for E3, hoping it will be there but knowing it won’t be.
Well, it’s not Half-Life 3, but I’ll be damned if Valve themselves didn’t confirm the existence of a new title in the franchise today.
On Twitter, Valve announced a new, VR exclusive title called Half-Life: Alyx. No doubt named for the surprisingly bearable deuteragonist of Half-Life 2. All we know for now is the name, alongside a promise for more info come Thursday, November 21st.
Now, you may be thinking it’s pushing the limit for a horrorcast like us to cover this. However, Half-Life, from day one, has had horror DNA in its blood. From the first level of the original to Ravenholm to the thousands of mods (including some notable Resident Evil mods). Half-Life touches on the horror genre just as much as it does the action-shooter genre.
How much of that horror lineage will come through in this “flagship VR game” remains to be seen. One need not worry too much; there’ll no doubt be a headcrab zombie or two for you to come face to face with.
